First I am thankful to God that your sister in law seems to begin to have the fruits in her life for which all of you have so long hoped. Redemption and hope in the great and precious promises of God our Father through Jesus Christ borne out through His Holy Spirit, this is life for us.

What a blessing you gave those people and a blessing to you and your family too. Three scriptures come to mind.
Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.
1 Corinthians 10:24 You can look this one up on your own but it's just as good.

Bob thank you for your comments. It's is nice to know someone actually reades the post. I couldn't agree with you more. I thought about refrencing Daniel but didn't but it does make a good point. I also like your comment about Peter not writing to God but for God to humans.

Thanks again

Thanks, Scott. I read something many years ago about the opening passage of Revelation, and it's always stuck with me. Jim McGuiggan explains in the Introduction to his book Revelation (http://amzn.to/gJ8Ulx), that God spoke in a vision to Daniel and told him the prophecy was "many days to come". That prophecy (Daniel 8) was fulfilled less than 400 years after it was received, yet it was "many days to come". John was told just the opposite -- that these events were soon -- so it's not a logical interpretation to assume this book is in reference to events more than 2000 years after John wrote the book.

We sometimes hear similar arguments when people explain why creation "days" must have been long periods of time, and they use 2 Peter 3:8 as "proof". Granted, 1000 years to the Lord is as a day, but the Holy Spirit wasn't using Peter and John and Moses to write to God; He was writing to ordinary people like you and me. Thus when He uses terms like "day" and "soon", I must interpret them the same way I would if you and I said these things in the normal course of conversation -- a "day" is a period of 24 hours, and "soon" does not mean 2000+ years.

The world disappoints; God never disappoints. We may be disappointed in God, but that's not His fault. It's due to our own stubborn selfishness.

Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Invictus may be good poetry, but it's sorry theology. None of it sounds like anything someone would write who is humbled before his Maker.

We should always remember God's grace is sufficient in our inadequacies. We don't solve the problems we just walk along side those who suffer and God provides the ultimate healing in Jesus Christ when Jesus comes again to take us home.
